Ladbrokes' principal strategy is to create long-term value through the provision of topnotch merchandises and services that will enable management to drive profits across our Retail, telephone and eGaming portfolios, control costs and capitalise on the Company's key strengths.
Ladbrokes is:
- A long-established, trusted and widely recognised brand
- A market leader in United Kingdom retail wagering with a Blue Chip estate of gambling shops
- The retail betting market leader in Ireland and Belgium
- A market leading Cyberspace operator via Ladbrokes.com
Ladbrokes has:
- A history of innovation and profitable adaptation to regulatory, fiscal and technological change
- An effective risk management system and more than 100 years of bookmaking expertise
- A powerful management team with significant experience in the gambling and gaming industries
The development of the Cyberspace has opened up vast opportunities and Ladbrokes.com, which has attained good organic development since 1999, has emerged as one of the largest websites in the United Kingdom. A 20.8 per cent surge in the figure of active players in 2009, followed by further development in player participation and sign-ups during the first half of 2009, reflects a extremely successful recruitment campaign which will now give way to focused marketing designed to maximise the yield from a significantly great client base. Ladbrokes has decided to relocate the Company's online sportsbook to Gibraltar by the end of 2009 in order to compete more effectively with companies that are already running out of small tax jurisdictions. This development is expected to materially improve competitiveness and, in 2010, the operating margin of the eGaming business. A new generation sportsbook encompassing an enhanced product range, video streamed streamed sports action, key statistics and improved functionality will also be introduced by the end of the year. Neteller are certainly sweeping this under the carpet then. I spoke with a VIP account manager a short while ago on this matter, and she said she was not aware of any merchants "hating" Neteller as a deposit method. She said she would escalate the matter, and I have heard nothing more since.
If there is such concern, I do not believe the merchants have not made Neteller aware of their concerns, so Neteller seem to be denying everything, even when asked specifically about this.
Neteller is regulated by the FSA, and must adhere to high standards of security and customer verification. If they are negligently allowing fraudsters to operate from Neteller accounts, and are so inefficient in policing this that merchants themselves are taking this very public action, Neteller will find their GENUINE customers are forced to "jump ship" to another ewallet not so prone to fraudsters on their systems.
Credit cards have made significant changes to gambling transactions, and have also raised interest rates despite the bank base rate being at a 300 year low. 29.9% is the "cash advance" rate, far higher than the "purchase" rate. Changing gambling transactions from "purchase" to "cash advance" has allowed them to both deny the usual interest free period, AND charge the "cash advance" rate from the day the casino deposit is made, to the day the bill is paid. This can mean having interest bearing casino deposits on the card for up to a month and a half, costing 29.9%.
Only ONE card doesn't do this yet, but it is "full", because all of a sudden the Jackpot Factory have started returning card deposits to the preferred payment method, instead of back to the card, as I was expecting.
Ladbrokes have imposed all this hassle, yet the Christmas promos this year are nowhere near as good as last (probably KK's fault ), certainly not worth the bother of setting up a new deposit method.
I have debit cards, but deposits from them keep getting rejected, so I have given up on this alternative.
If all this is down to problems with fraud, why can't casinos just be honest about this to their GENUINE players who have habitually used Neteller, and suggest alternatives. In fact, a LOYAL player should be treated like a PERSON, and not a number, so surely these LOYAL players should NOT be subject to the Neteller exclusion policy, which should be reserved for NEW players whilst they establish themselves as genuine, and not fraudsters.
Ladbrokes is the LAST casino I would have expected this from, as they are a BRITISH brand, and Neteller is regulated by BRITAIN, through the FSA.

Ladbrokes to close call centre
UK bookmakers Ladbrokes has revealed plans to close its telebetting call centre in Aintree, Liverpool. The closure could see the loss of 263 jobs, although Ladbrokes says it hopes to relocate some staff.
Ladbrokes, like its competitor William Hill, has moved its online sports betting operations offshore to Gibraltar.
The company points to the fact that a UK-based betting call centre will pay 15% gross profits tax and an additional 10% in levy on bets on UK horseracing.
By contrast, offshore operators are often subject to much lower tax rates and are not obliged to contribute to the UK horseracing levy.

Ladbrokes' principal strategy is to create long-term value through the provision of outstanding products and services that will enable management to drive revenues across our Retail, phone and eGaming portfolios, control costs and capitalise on the Company's key strengths.
Betting company Ladbrokes has confirmed the loss of 263 jobs today. The high-street bookmaker announced the closure of its Aintree call centre in Liverpool, as well as the axing of the jobs.
The company blamed the move on foreign-based competitors being able to undercut its operation due to favourable tax conditions.
The company issued a statement saying: “UK-based telephone-betting operators like Ladbrokes are being severely impacted by competition from offshore operators that enjoy significant tax advantages.
“Ladbrokes' telephone betting service pays 15% tax on its gross profits and a further 10% on profits from UK horse racing, as well as VAT and corporation tax. Offshore operators typically pay no or very-low taxes and no horse racing levy.”
Ladbrokes' spokesman Ciaran O'Brien added: “We have today begun a three-month consultation with our employees on the proposed closure.
“The proposals include plans to redeploy or relocate employees to minimise redundancies. Telephone betting is a very competitive market and one that is becoming increasingly difficult for UK-based operators – who face significantly higher levels of tax than those operating from offshore jurisdictions.”
Ladbrokes' core telephone business was loss-making at the half-year stage this year, recording a 41% decline in revenues. In October the company transferred Ladbrokes.com to Gibraltar, a British dependency and tax haven.
Sue Ianson, of the union Usdaw, said: “We are devastated at Ladbrokes' announcement to close the call centre in Liverpool. The company only informed us minutes before it broke the news to workers. They are now entering a 90-day consultation period.
“This is dreadful news for our members, especially at this time of year. We will be doing everything we can to support them throughout this process.”
Irish bookmaker Paddy Power, which has 80 shops in the UK, reported a slump in earnings after a series of unwelcome sporting results.
The Dublin-based bookmaker reported a 26% decline in profits for the first six months of the year to €33.5m (£29.3m), after being hit hard by Irish rugby's most successful season ever, a consistent showing by the English Premier League's “big four” clubs, and jockey Ruby Walsh's record seven winners at the Cheltenham festival (pictured above).
“After eight Irish-trained winners over the first two days we were considering going to the government for a bailout, but we knew they had no money left,” the bookmaker said of its torrid time at the festival.
In the UK it opened 15 shops in the first half of the year and remains on target to have at least 150 units by 2011.
The Dublin-based bookmaker forecast it would still meet market-consensus figures for the year and increased its interim dividend by 5% to 19.5 euro cents per share. British rival Ladbrokes cut its interim dividend earlier this month, while Britain's biggest bookmaker, William Hill, warned full-year profits would be below expectations.
Paddy Power said it had increased market share across all divisions, gaining 3 percentage points to hold 29% of the Irish retail market. It also saw growth accelerate in its online division – responsible for two-thirds of group profit – with a 23% rise in the amounts staked by customers and a 20% increase in active customers, pushing operating profit slightly up.

Benefiting from its brand strength the Company offers an all-embracing range of gambling and gaming services via its retail, Cyberspace and telephone operations, backed by 18,000 expert employees and state of the art technology. Ladbrokes' primary strategy is to create long-term value through the provision of excellent merchandises and services that will enable management to drive profits across our Retail, telephone and eGaming portfolios, control costs and capitalise on the Company's key strengths.
Ladbrokes is:
- A long-term-established, trusted and wide acknowledged brand
- A market leader in UK retail gambling with a Blue Chip estate of betting shops
- The retail gambling market leader in Ireland and Belgium
- A market leading Webspace operator via Ladbrokes.com
Ladbrokes has:
- A history of innovation and profitable adaptation to regulatory, fiscal and technological change
- An effective risk management system and more than 106 years of bookmaking expertise
- A powerful management team with significant experience in the wagering and gaming industries
The development of the Cyberspace has opened up wide opportunities and Ladbrokes.com, which has accomplished strong organic development since 2001, has emerged as one of the largest websites in the UK. A 20.7 per cent upsurge in the number of active players in 2008, followed by further emergence in player participation and sign-ups during the second half of 2009, reflects a extremely successful recruitment campaign which will now give way to focused marketing designed to maximise the return from a significantly great client base. Ladbrokes has decided to relocate the Company's Internet sportsbook to Gibraltar by the end of 2009 in order to compete more effectively with companies that are already operating out of low tax jurisdictions. This development is expected to materially improve competitiveness and, in 2010, the operating margin of the eGaming business. A new generation sportsbook encompassing an enhanced product range, video streamed streamed sports action, key statistics and improved functionality will also be introduced by the end of the year.

As with every Spring Racing season, we get lots of contact from the bookmakers just before the Cheltenham Festival begins as they know as well as we do that people like betting on the Festival and the Grand National which occurs a couple of weeks time.
Cheltenham Festival 2010 begins tomorrow, and Totesport have told us of their new free bet offer, and a few other bits and pieces of information that may sway you in their direction when placing your Festival 2010 bets. Then again, it may not! The choice, is yours.
Click here to visit Totesport and register a new account.
Totesport £50 Free Bet Offer
When we got the Totesport email in the inbox “here we go” we thought, the free bet has been pulled or reduced ( a lot of bookies do this at busy periods – William Hill always used to, and SportingBet have this year too), but, while they have reduced their offer a little, they have only knocked a tenner off, pulling it down to a nice round £50 free bet.
Of course, when bookmakers say “Free Bet” what they actually mean, is something more akin to the “Buy One Get One Free” offers we see in the supermarket – in that you’ll have to “buy one” to qualify for this free bet.
This offer is a simple match bet offer – just:
- Visit Totesport’s website and register a new account;
- Deposit £50 and place a bet of that value;
- You will receive a free bet of the same amount.
Make sure you comply with the totesport terms and conditions though to ensure you receive your free bet credit.

5/1 Cheltenham Festival Free Bet Offer
Totesport have also got a good promotion running for those of us who already have accounts with the bookmaker, or those of us who are thinking of placing a few win bets in this season’s Cheltenham Festival: the 5/1 Free Bet Offer.
What this one entails is quite simple: if you back a winner at Cheltenham Festival 2010 with Totesport and its odds are more than 5-1, you’ll get a free bet of the same value PLUS your winnings! There are a lot of rules for this, but importantly, you must:
- Place the bet after 6pm the night before (so not too early!)
- Bet between £1 and £25 – no more than £25 free bet will be credited
- Bet must be a win single only
There are some more Ts&Cs, but the above are the most important (in our opinion) – check them before placing any bet if this is your major motivation in having a bet.
Most of us are just happy to bag a Festival winner without a free bet – but this would certainly ice the cake, and would give you another free shot to increase your happiness!

Tranquil Sea impresses at Leopardstown
Day Three, Ryanair Chase | KieronJohnson | March 2, 2010 at 10:23 am
Tranquil Sea boosted his claims for the Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham with a tremendous victory in the Newlands Chase at Leopardstown.
Edward O’Grady’s eight-year-old led after the second-last and pulled clear on the run-in thanks to a good jump at the final fence.
The 4/6 favourite was driven out by Andrew McNamara to hold Natal by two and a half lengths with Snowy Morning half a length back in third.
Boylesports quote Tranquil Sea at (9/2) for the Ryanair at Cheltenham.
It isn’t often things go as much to plan as that. Hopefully it’s onwards and upwards and I couldn’t have asked for more,” said O’Grady.
The owners decided we would be as well off running for 26,000 euro as schooling after racing.
It was a very delicate balancing act as we wanted a bit of work and wanted to win the race but didn’t want him to have a hard race. It worked out well.
Hopefully he’ll come on for the race. It’s his first Graded chase and if he improves from it he must have a shout (in the Ryanair).
He has won on soft but I think he’s better on better ground and I think he should come to hand in the spring.
